Data Operations Engineer

Hertfordshire (Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite)

We are recruiting on behalf of a major gaming organisation undergoing a large-scale data transformation. They are seeking an experienced Data Operations Engineer to ensure the stability and performance of their BI and data platforms.

This role is central to managing production data operations and supporting a team of engineers. It requires strong experience with AWS data tools, SQL, ETL pipelines, and BI systems, along with a solid background in incident, change, and problem management.

Key Responsibilities

Incident, Change & Problem Management

  • Provide L2 support for BI and data platforms, escalating complex issues to L3
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring problems
  • Approve and manage production deployments in line with change control processes
  • Work closely with Development and QA teams to ensure stable, safe releases

Operational Oversight

  • Monitor ETL pipelines, BI dashboards, and system performance
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and availability
  • Maintain SLA compliance for uptime, latency, and data freshness
  • Support a team of 7–8 engineers, coordinating operational activity and resolution

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5+ years in Data/BI Operations, with 3+ years in AWS-based environments
  • Strong SQL and data warehousing expertise
  • Hands-on with AWS tools (Redshift, Glue, Airflow, S3, Step Functions)
  • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting platforms
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks (incident, change, problem management)
