Job summary

Sphere Digital Recruitment seeks an experienced Team Lead - Data & Engineering to guide and mentor a data-centric engineering team in a hybrid London setting. You will shape backend architecture, ensure scalable data pipelines, and collaborate with Product and Data teams to drive data activation.

The role combines leadership with hands-on software engineering across distributed systems. The ideal candidate brings 4-6+ years in software engineering, proven team leadership, and deep knowledge

Qualifications

• 4-6+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience leading and managing engineering teams, including remote or international members
• Strong experience with Scala, Spark, JavaScript/TypeScript and AWS

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage an engineering team while remaining hands-on with the design and development of scalable backend systems and data pipelines
• Own key technical components, driving reliability, performance and long-term scalability
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical direction across the platform
• Collaborate with Product and Data teams to develop data activation and targeting capabilities while improving data quality
• Drive engineering best practices across code quality, testing, observability and deployment, mentoring engineers
