Job summary

Ocho People is seeking a Lead Data Engineer for a high growth digital technology consultancy in the UK. You will lead a small team, design and develop data processing components, and own ETL/ELT pipelines using Palantir, Databricks and major cloud platforms.

This role offers hybrid working, citizen-scale projects in government, NHS and enterprise clients, and a salary of £95,000–£105,000. You will shape data solutions, coach engineers, and contribute to technical proposals in a busy delivery

Qualifications

• Experience leading a team of engineers on data-intensive components.
• Strong commercial experience with Palantir.
• Proficient in Java, Scala or Python.
• Experience with data processing platforms on AWS/Azure/GCP/Databricks.
• Expert SQL skills for analytical use cases.
• Knowledge of distributed data stores and processing frameworks.
• Ability to design analytical and operational data models.
• Experience with standards, design patterns and operational readiness.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of whole components or subsystems including design, code, test and defect resolution.
• Hands-on design and development using open source and commercial platforms.
• Define and enforce development best practices, coaching team members for consistency.
• Collaborate with project architects on non-functional requirements of ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Lead unit and integration testing standards within the team.
• Lead troubleshooting and performance tuning activities.
• Coordinate with Operations, Security Architects and accreditors for readiness and compliance.
• Advise on estimated effort and technical implications of user stories.
• Contribute to technical proposals as part of the sales process.
• Manage and develop staff with focus on performance and career growth.
