About the role
Benefact Group is seeking a Lead Data & Analytics Engineer to join our Gloucester office. The role involves leading the design, development, and optimization of cloud-based data pipelines and analytics solutions using modern cloud technologies. You will ensure scalable, secure, and efficient cloud data services that drive insights across the organization, providing technical leadership and strategic direction. Key responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Management: Manage a team of data engineers, providing mentorship and support to ensure successful project delivery. Foster a collaborative, high-performance environment, supporting the Head of Data Operations in coordinating activities and achieving milestones.
- Cloud Data Engineering: Lead the design, build, and maintenance of cloud-native data pipelines using ETL/ELT, streaming, and modern data processing techniques.
- Data Visualisation & Analytics: Oversee scalable, cloud-based analytics and data services to enable business decision-making.
- Operational Support & Troubleshooting: Ensure high availability and reliability of data solutions, providing second-line support and performance optimization.
- Cloud Governance & Security: Implement and enforce best practices for security, compliance, and governance in cloud data environments.
- Collaboration & Agile Development: Work closely with stakeholders, attend Data Analytics Board meetings, and lead agile processes.
- Data Strategy & Automation: Drive automation and self-service solutions, promoting a data-driven culture.
- Continuous Integration & Deployment: Support cloud-based CI/CD pipelines for data solutions, enabling efficient releases.
- Technical Leadership: Mentor users and citizen data scientists in adopting cloud-native analytics and data science tools.
- Hands-On Development: Participate in designing, coding, and testing cloud-native data pipelines.
- Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoot complex data issues and bottlenecks, providing hands-on solutions.
- Prototyping & Innovation: Lead prototypes and POCs to explore new technologies.
- Code Reviews & Best Practices: Conduct reviews to ensure high-quality code standards.
- Tool & Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies.
- Data Integration: Manage data integration tasks ensuring seamless data flow.
- Performance Tuning: Perform performance tuning and optimization of data pipelines and resources.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential:
- Cloud Platforms: Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud for data engineering.
- Cloud Data Tools: Expertise in Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Synapse Analytics.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong knowledge of Python, SQL, Spark, or similar.
- Data Modelling & Warehousing: Experience with cloud-based data architecture.
- CI/CD & DevOps: Knowledge of Terraform, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Agile & Collaboration: Ability to work in agile environments and drive data strategies.
- Security & Compliance: Awareness of cloud security practices and data legislation.
- Team Leadership & Project Management: Proven leadership in data engineering teams and projects.
Desirable:
- Data Science & AI Exposure: Understanding of ML, AI, or advanced analytics.
- BI & Reporting Tools: Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Automated Testing & Monitoring: Experience with ICEDQ, QuerySurge, or cloud-native monitoring tools.
