Job summary

Scottish and Southern Energy is seeking a senior Power BI specialist to design and deliver reusable semantic models, consolidating data sources and optimising DAX performance.

You will work with BI developers and stakeholders to translate complex questions into scalable analytic products, leveraging Fabric, Copilot and SQL on a modern data platform. This permanent hybrid role offers flexible options with UK locations Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience developing and optimising complex Power BI solutions including reusable semantic models.
• Proven experience consolidating multiple datasets into shared analytical products supporting several reports/use cases.
• Strong Power BI expertise including DAX, relationships, storage modes, security and performance optimisation.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with a modern data platform (ideally Microsoft Fabric).
• Strong analytical and stakeholder skills to turn ambiguous requirements into scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on design and development of reusable datasets and Power BI semantic models for BI use cases.
• Consolidate standalone semantic models into shared analytical products supporting multiple reports.
• Translate complex business questions into clear data requirements, definitions, and measures.
• Diagnose and resolve Power BI performance issues via semantic-model design and optimization.
• Collaborate with BI developers, data engineers, architects and stakeholders to align with standards and drive testing/deployment.

Job description

Salary: £50,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements:

• Extensive hands-on experience developing and optimising complex Power BI solutions, including reusable semantic models rather than only individual reports or dashboards
• Proven experience consolidating multiple standalone datasets or semantic models into shared analytical products supporting several reports, teams or business use cases
• Strong Power BI expertise, including DAX, relationships, storage modes, security and performance optimisation
• Advanced SQL skills and practical experience using a modern data platform for data preparation, transformation and analytical modelling, ideally including Microsoft Fabric
• Strong analytical and stakeholder skills, with the ability to turn ambiguous requirements and fragmented data into scalable, maintainable solutions
• Experience preparing models for Copilot or natural-language querying would be advantageous

• Lead the hands-on design and development of reusable analytical datasets and Power BI semantic models for BI and analytics use cases
• Assess and consolidate standalone semantic models, bringing common data, measures and business logic into shared analytical products that support multiple reports and BI use cases
• Translate complex business questions into clear data requirements, definitions, measures and practical Power BI solutions
• Diagnose and resolve Power BI performance issues through effective semantic-model design, DAX optimisation and appropriate storage choices
• Work with Power BI developers, data engineers, architects and business stakeholders to align solutions with agreed standards and take them through testing, deployment and ongoing improvement
