Job summary

Tropic Bioscience in Norwich, UK is seeking a talented scientist to lead the trait enablement arm of our TechDev team. You will drive gene editing optimization, RNAi strategies and crop transformation programs while mentoring a team of scientists.

The role requires a PhD in a related field and a proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs under time pressure in an industry setting. This full-time position offers a path to shape Tropic’s pipeline and technology development strategy.

Qualifications

PhD in Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology or related field; postdoc or industry experience preferred.
Proven ability to lead a team to deliver high-quality outputs under time pressure.
Ability to design and troubleshoot complex science plans.
Critically assess data and make evidence-based decisions.
Expertise in crop transformation, gene editing or RNAi in an industry setting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Own a portfolio of projects including gene editing optimization and novel RNAi strategies in crops.
Manage people and be responsible for their professional development.
Manage resources, mitigate risks and deliver projects on time.
Communicate progress, risks and recommendations clearly to colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Contribute to TechDev’s scientific strategy and direction beyond your own workstream.
Mentor colleagues, share expertise and champion continuous learning.
Maintain rigorous records and champion safe, high-quality laboratory practice.
