Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority seeks a Lead Control and Instrumentation Engineer for the MAST Upgrade tokamak project. You will guide design, development, and commissioning of C&I systems, interlocks, PASS, and data acquisition for heating and current drive plants.

You will oversee fault finding, coordinate with engineering teams, and supervise staff to ensure safe, compliant operations and upgrades. Onsite work five days a week with flexible working options.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience with C&I for complex systems, including high‑power/HV electricals, motion control, vacuum, water cooling, fast data acquisition and interlocks.
  • Experience in integrating and programming PLCs, embedded systems and SCADA in hardware and software (LabVIEW, TIA-Portal, FPGA environments).

Responsibilities

  • Guide the design, development, and commissioning of tokamak heating and current drive C&I systems, protection/interlock, PASS or subsystems.
  • Liaise with engineering/design teams to ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Act as Responsible Officer for systems, assess performance and propose improvements.
  • Oversee fault finding and repair on power and control circuits down to component level.
  • Supervise engineers, technicians and electricians ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensure activities comply with Written Safe Systems of Work and UKAEA rules.
