Job description
Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Consultant with a background in the nuclear industry to support the growth, strategy, and delivery of consultancy projects. This role involves working across multiple frameworks and programmes, taking ownership of circa 20 concurrent small-scale projects/tasks. You will drive the strategic execution, support tendering and bid processes, and oversee operational excellence in a regulated consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Growth:
    • Support the development of a 5-year business plan aligned with wider strategic goals.
    • Identify core market areas, technology needs, and key strategic partnerships.
    • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to deliver business unit alignment.
    • Develop marketing content and value propositions to support bids and campaigns.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Project Delivery:
    • Provide leadership and input on design projects, ensuring integration of nuclear safety principles.
    • Manage task delivery within agreed authority limits, ensuring quality, cost, and time objectives.
    • Review and approve technical deliverables, including design changes, concessions, and queries.
    • Manage technical risks and feed lessons learned into future work.
  • Bid & Tender Support:
    • Oversee bids and offers in line with internal delegation policies.
    • Support governance processes, ensuring all technical inputs are robust and compliant.
    • Conduct bid reviews (win/loss) and ensure learning is captured for continuous improvement.
  • Process & Governance:
    • Contribute to the development of proportionate, scalable procedures and standards.
    • Ensure technical teams apply processes correctly and effectively.
  • Leadership:
    • Act as a role model, upholding professional standards and promoting inclusion and wellbeing.
    • Lead, develop, and support team members through coaching, communication, and performance management.
    • Organise resources to ensure customer expectations are met efficiently.
Required Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Science-related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Strong experience in the civil nuclear industry, ideally in nuclear safety roles.
  • Demonstrable success in strategic planning and consultancy growth.
  • Established network in the nuclear sector.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting tendering and bid submissions.
  • Familiarity with public-sector procurement regulations and frameworks.
  • Market knowledge beyond civil nuclear, including clean energy or defence.
Additional Information
  • Clearance: Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid working is supported, with 2-3 days per week expected on-site or at client locations.
  • Duration: Initial 6-month term, with strong likelihood of extension to 9+ months based on project pipeline and performance.
