Job description

Doyou have effective communication skills? Are you good at problem-solving? Do you have some supervisory or leadership experience? If so, this role could be for you!

We're looking for a Lead Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Engineer. You will have an extensive background in mechanical, electrical and process engineering associated with CHPs, standby generators and anaerobic digestion.

You will need to be comfortable with computers, understand health and safety at work, and contractor management, while also being able to play a key role in implementing safe systems, including permits to work and processing risk assessments.

What you'll do

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Combined Heat and Power Generator team as the Lead Engineer.

The post covers the whole of our region. As the Lead CHP Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the continued day-to-day efficient performance, operation and maintenance of CHPs, generators, and associated equipment.

You will:

  • use your engineering expertise to analyse the performance of the CHPs and generators and determine ways to maintain or improve performance
  • focus on implementing a revised monitoring and repair regime which is proactive, delivers high availability and resolves issues quickly
  • lead and work with the Generation Technicians, the electrical, mechanical and instrumentation (EM&I) department and contractors
  • ensure that the CHPs, generators and associated equipment are operated and maintained in a safe and compliant manner, as well as ensuring compliance with environmental permit conditions and associated sector guidance
  • ensure that activities are managed and operated according to the documents and procedures within the management system.
  • ensure all process safety procedures and requirements are adhered to including management of engineering change and pre-start safety reviews.
  • be trained as a first-aider

Documents and procedures will be controlled, implemented and maintained in accordance with the standards we follow, including environmental permits, regulatory guidance, ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and the Competence Management System.

You will be working with a great team in an extremely interesting and varied role encompassing multiple technical disciplines across a range of modern technologies.

Examples of our previous projects include marketing the world-famous 'Bio-Bus', running operational trials and developing an innovative composting process.

What you'll need
  • Time served as Mechanical/Electrical engineer or qualified to NVQ level 3.
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification (desirable).
  • Extensive background in mechanical, electrical and process engineering associated with CHPs and anaerobic digestion.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy and the ability to learn new software packages.
  • The ability to understand and complete safe systems of work.
  • The ability to solve problems with a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated and able to learn quickly with a strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • The willingness to undertake further training as required for professional development.
