The Club
Trojan ASC based in Whitburn, West Lothian are looking for a passionate and committed Lead Coach to join our established team of coaches. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to join a community club and drive it forward.
Established in 1978, Trojan ASC is a friendly and community-focused club. We aim to provide training opportunities for around 100 young athletes within a safe, supportive environment that enables each to reach their full potential, whether through competitive swimming success or improved fitness.
We serve our local community and provide all levels of swimming for athletes ages 7 through to 18 through training sessions that take place during weekday evenings at Whitburn, Armadale & Livingston and on a Sunday afternoon at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh once a fortnight.

Personal Specification
The Lead Coach will lead a team of coaches and be fully engaged across the club showing commitment, enthusiasm and ambition. They must be a genuine team player and clearly show their love of coaching and swimming. Most importantly they must be driven and knowledgeable, whilst possessing the ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, parents and the committee.
The Lead Coach should be knowledgeable in competitive swimming with a particular focus on developing the skills and techniques of the club’s athletes thus enabling each to reach their full potential. Inclusion is an integral part of our community and ethos, and the lead coach will deliver a training programme to inspire swimmers at all levels. Additionally, the successful individual will have a passion for competitions and must be prepared to attend various galas and meets to support our athletes in competition.
Key Requirements
- UKCC/SQA Level 2 Coaching Swimming
- PVG Scheme Membership & Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport Certificate (CWPS)
- National Rescue Award (NRA) or national Pool Lifeguard Award (NPLQ)
- Strong record as a Technical Swimming Coach
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), time management skills and a competent administrator
- Have a passion for competitions and must be prepared to attend various galas and meets to support our athletes
- Proven Leadership ability

- Passionate about swimming and inspire others in the sport
- Able to help athletes develop a positive and healthy mental attitude to the sport and competitive situations and encourage good habits in nutrition, sleep and well-being
- Prepared to learn and develop through appropriate training and have attention to technical detail
The Role
The main responsibilities of the Lead Coach at Trojan ASC are:
- Lead, manage and support the development of the club’s team of coaches
- Plan and deliver progressive training plans for squads throughout the club that engage swimmers, develop their talent and support their goals
- Lead on coaching the top squad, supporting all other squads and squad coaches as required
- Provide cover as and when required when other coaches are away
- Develop a competition schedule for the club and actively encourage athletes to enter those competitions which are appropriate to their level of development
- Arrange coaching cover at competitions and that coaches provide effective support and feedback to swimmers
- Oversee/decide with coaching team all squad moves
- Collaborate with the Executive Committee to develop the club to meet the needs of the members and ensure the smooth running of the club
- Be approachable and able to communicate with parents, athletes, coaches and committee members in a professional manner
Remuneration
This is a self-employed position, and Trojan ASC will offer a competitive level of renumeration, considering experience and qualifications.
The role may be variable but will be approximately 10 hours per week. We will expect you to prep, attend competitions over and above this. There is a fixed fee for competition attendance.
