Job description

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country and a leading healthcare provider in Britain. We are recruiting a Lead Cloud Engineer to support the maintenance, operation, and scaling of the cloud infrastructure for the PharosAI project, part of the DSIT funded initiative.

This role offers exposure to cutting-edge research in patient and healthcare data, aligning with the NHS goal of leveraging data to save lives. The Lead Cloud Engineer will be part of the Precision Medicine team within Barts Health Informatics, assisting researchers and clinicians in developing data analysis projects to personalize patient treatment. The Successful Candidate Will Have

1. Extensive experience with cloud services, ideally within the NHS, academia, or the private sector.
2. Significant experience in cloud engineering for data and compute infrastructure, and software deployment on a public cloud provider.
3. Experience leading the delivery of public cloud solutions (preferably Azure) within a team.
4. Experience using agile methodologies for infrastructure integration projects in a distributed team environment.
5. Proficiency in scripting or programming (e.g., Python, BASH, Terraform, GitHub).

We are utilizing modern cloud technology to build the Barts Health Data Platform and its Secure Data Environment (SDE), which will contain patient data compliant with all security and governance standards. The SDE must be adaptable for various users and analysis activities, incorporating open-source components like the Azure TRE project, with the aim of making our work publicly accessible.

The primary duties include identifying, investigating, implementing, and managing cloud services and data management systems that comprise the SDE, especially to support our participation in PharosAI. This involves close collaboration with the project team. Additionally, the Lead Cloud Engineer will plan and customize the SDE for researchers and clinicians, working with contractors, and ensuring the security of patient data while integrating open-source solutions as needed.
