Job summary

NCIC in Whitehaven is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care to join the Specialist Palliative Care Team at West Cumberland Hospital. The role focuses on expert assessment, symptom management and end-of-life care within the acute hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Degree in Nursing or health-related subject, or equivalent experience.
• Postgraduate qualification in Specialist Palliative Care (PG Cert) or equivalent.
• Advanced communication skills training.
• Practice Assessor/Supervisor qualification (or willingness to achieve).
• Independent and Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300).
• Advanced Clinical Assessment qualification.
• Teaching or Education qualification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality specialist palliative care to patients and families.
• Act as a senior member of the CNS team, providing expert advice and leadership.
• Contribute to service development and redesign to meet patient needs.
• Undertake and facilitate education, training, and mentorship for staff.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, patient-centred care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with governance and standards.
• Occasionally cover wider areas of the service as required.
