Job summary

VolkerStevin, part of VolkerWessels UK, is recruiting a Principal Design Engineer to lead design across tendering and construction of major civil projects. The role focuses on safe, innovative temporary and permanent works, with collaboration across project teams, clients and consultants.

You will mentor graduates and apprentices, develop engineering standards, review design deliverables and provide technical leadership while supporting strategic objectives of the Engineering Department.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil/Structural engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the ICE, IStructE or another relevant professional institution.
• Extensive experience in the design of temporary works and/or permanent works within a civil engineering environment.
• Experience managing engineering interfaces with project teams and external consultants.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering activities from concept through to construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design and technical delivery for temporary and permanent works.
• Produce design calculations, technical reports, design risk assessments, sketches and drawings.
• Review external consultant designs and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Provide expert technical advice to project and operational teams.
• Undertake site inspections and technical reviews.
• Support Engineering Manager in DI responsibilities and mentor TWCs/TWSs.
• Ensure temporary works designs are safe, practical and delivered per procedures.
• Assist in managing non-conformances and project risks.
