Job Description:

Job Type: Permanent

Build a brilliant future with Hiscox

About the team/division:

Our team of twenty underwriters and six pricing analysts focus on Property lines written within the London Market. Seventy-five percent of business is written through delegated authority binders and lineslips, with the remainder consisting of direct and facultative, shared and layered open market placements.

We are looking for a lead analyst to join our pricing team working on delegated authority binders business. The role involves digital rating tool development, portfolio analytics, risk pricing, cat modelling, research, and process improvements.

The strategy for the Property team is to build upon a profitable, enviable book of core coverholders and clients. We actively manage the portfolio size based on market conditions and risk assessments.

Expectations are high, but the team enjoys a well-established, lead market position with an excellent track record of outperforming peers. Our challenge is to drive the business forward in a fast-evolving marketplace.

The role

We seek someone who can take ownership, work independently, and thrive in ambiguity. The candidate should be a team leader, guiding and developing analysts, with confidence in data analysis, creative thinking, and effective communication. The role involves making sound business decisions backed by data and solving problems creatively.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing analytical support for property underwriters and management through risk pricing, portfolio analysis, and cat model outputs.
  2. Extracting insights from large data sets and conducting research for competitive advantage.
  3. Assessing the expected profitability of new opportunities with high-quality analysis.
  4. Communicating complex issues clearly to stakeholders including underwriters, reserving, exposure management, and RI teams.
  5. Leading and developing team analysts.
  6. Leveraging new technologies to develop digital trading platforms like Bind Plus and Flood Plus.

Must-haves:

  • Degree in a numerical subject, 2:1 or above.
  • 5+ years of catastrophe modelling experience (including RiskLink and SQL).
  • Exceptional technical skills with analytical tools, including at least two of Excel, SQL, R, Python, VBA.
  • Fluent in business English, both written and spoken.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Tableau desktop.
  • 2+ years of direct pricing experience.
  • Understanding of insurance processes like capital modelling, reserving, and reinsurance.
