Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a Lead Cardiac Radiographer to head the Cardiac Catheter Lab at the Lewisham site. The role focuses on strategic direction, operational management, and delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in a modern upgraded lab.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team including cardiologists, nurses, physiologists and radiographers, with a focus on staff development, training, and process improvements across the service.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience. Masters qualification preferred or working towards.
  • 1st level registration/Qualification in a relevant clinical speciality including nursing, Cardiac Physiology or Radiography.
  • Teaching/mentoring qualification or postgraduate qualification in healthcare management, or equivalent CPD evidence.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-registration clinical experience, including working in a cardiac centre in a specialised clinical area.
  • Experience of service development/planning.
  • Experience of managing staff, including recruitment, performance management and staff development.
  • Experience overseeing capital budgets, including submission of funding bids/proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership of the Cardiac Catheter Lab and multidisciplinary team across Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
  • Ensure day-to-day operational management and strategic direction of the Cardiac Cath Lab with safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Lead professional development of Cath Lab staff, implement Trust guidelines, and support recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Engage in governance processes, data quality, incident reporting and action plans; drive service development and inter-professional collaboration.

Job description

The Lead Cardiac Radiographer post is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory in Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. We have a Cardiac Catheter Lab and a shared recovery ward on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Site, with the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory having been upgraded in 2025. The lab provides a range of pacing and angiography procedures. The post holder will be managing a multidisciplinary workforce of Cardiologists, nurses, physiologists and radiographers. They will work in partnership with the senior managers across the multidisciplinary team within the Cardiac Cath Lab taking lead responsibility for the operational management and strategic direction of the Cardiac Catheter Lab to ensure the service provides responsive, high quality, safe and innovative patient care on a daily basis., The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management of the catheter lab and provide leadership within the department, ensuring compliance against standard operating procedures and performance metrics. To be visible, easily identifiable and accessible to patients, relatives and staff working within the clinical area as service needs, providing leadership, support and direction for the service. To lead the professional development of the multi-disciplinary Cath Lab team, including the implementation and development of relevant Trust guidelines, training and development of Cath Lab staff and recruitment and retention initiatives. To have a key responsibility for service development, ensuring delivery of a highly effective and efficient service. This will include development and implementation of strategies to create new ways of inter-professional working through supporting innovation and best practice. To be responsible for supporting the Cardiac Cath Lab's strategic aims in line with local and national developments/guidance., To engage proactively in the Divisions Clinical Governance processes, data quality and information management systems including reporting and investigation of incidents and complaints and implementation of relevant action plans. To work collaboratively with the Medical lead for the Cath Lab and Cardiology, Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance (DDNG), Specialist Medicine Head of Nursing and Senior Matron, Senior Radiographers and Head of Cardiac Physiology taking responsibility for ensuring the efficient operational management of the service and that strategic aims are met. To be expected to have specialist knowledge of cardiology, radiology and its working practices. This includes being responsible for the training and development of junior team members and work with and support colleagues of the management team with driving the service forward. Maintain a safe working environment, in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards acting as lead for NATSIPS / LOCSIPS within the Cath Labs. To lead on radiation safety ensuring all staff have up to date IRMER and IRR training and to be responsible for audit of IRMER and IRR and record keeping in line with Radiation Safety Committee guidance. To represent the Cardiac Cath Lab and promote service development within the SEL Cardiac Network
