As a member of Shell Energy Analysis & Design CC, you will work as an SME closely with business and IT stakeholders to define and shape future solutions within the Gas & Power portfolios. This role demands extensive experience in Commodity Trading and Trading Operations within the Gas sector. A thorough understanding of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting complex valuations and modelling is essential.

What you'll be doing

As a Lead Energy Trading Business Analyst and SME in the domain, you will be aligned with a specific commodity (Power, Gas, or Environmental Products) and/or a specific functional area (such as Front, Middle, or Back-Office). You will be responsible for leading the identification and documentation of business needs, starting with problem statements, collaborating with technical teams to explore feasible solution options. In the strategic ETRM program, you will oversee the business analysis activities for your workstream from inception through to delivery.

Your role will vary depending on the specific area of expertise, however typically you would perform the following day-to-day activities:

  • Interacting with traders/desks on challenges and needs, working within IDT stakeholders on business case and opportunity shaping
  • Planning, delivery, and assurance of business analysis deliverables on multiple programmes
  • Driving and managing scope and design for a workstream, including assessing risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options
  • Point of escalation for issues within your workstream
  • Coaching and mentoring the wider business analysis team
  • Generating innovative approaches to existing problems or new opportunities
  • Stakeholder management - building relationships with key stakeholders, keeping them informed, and managing expectations
What you bring

As a Business Analyst with substantial experience in Energy Trading seeking a significant challenge and growth opportunities within a team pushing the boundaries of Energy Trading and Risk Management, you will be at the core of an industry-leading organization driving the energy transition, helping to ensure a brighter future for everyone.

  • Proven track record of delivering projects through the entire lifecycle
  • Expertise in shaping processes and solutions, including capturing business problems, value drivers, and requirements
  • Strong leadership, analytical skills, and change management capabilities
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management skills, confidently engaging with stakeholders at various levels and providing legitimate challenges
  • Experience in performing quality assurance roles on workstream deliverables
  • Proficiency in Agile and DevOps delivery
  • Great team player with adaptability, quick learning, and change management skills
  • Strong business analysis techniques, including design thinking, requirements analysis, business process modelling, wireframing, data analysis, and more

Energy Trading Experience

  • Extensive experience in energy trading markets, with a strong understanding of markets such as European Power, European Gas, and Environmental products considered an advantage
  • Hands-on knowledge of trading instruments like OTC transactions (forwards, swaps, options) and exchange-traded futures & options
  • Knowledge of trade capture, market risk, risk valuation, back-office, and accounting processes, and experience migrating between ETRM systems

ETRM/CTRM Experience

  • Extensive hands-on ETRM/CTRM experience, with Endur skills being essential
  • Configuration experience with vendor applications and integration technologies is an advantage
