Job summary

Tesco is seeking a Lead Built Asset Manager to provide strategic direction across building standards, asset data, and engineering services. You will lead a team of internal specialists and external consultants to ensure robust asset management and compliance across Tesco's estate.

The role focuses on shaping long-term investment decisions, improving asset performance, and aligning technical delivery with business priorities while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Chartered status within a relevant built environment discipline.
  • Degree-level qualification in Property, Construction, Engineering or a related built environment subject.
  • Significant experience within the built asset, property, construction or engineering sector.
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams.
  • Experience developing and implementing building, engineering or asset management strategies.
  • Strong understanding of UK building regulations, standards and legislation.
  • Experience managing building condition surveys, asset databases and defect management programmes.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing consultancy services, budgets and supplier relationships.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior leadership level.
  • A passion for innovation, continuous improvement and delivering long-term value through property investment.
  • An appreciation of the operational demands of a large retail business and the ability to balance technical requirements with commercial priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of internal specialists and external consultants, providing expert built asset and structural engineering advice across the business.
  • Owning Tesco's building standards and specifications, ensuring they remain current, robust and aligned to legislative and business requirements.
  • Managing the effective utilisation of external building surveying consultancy services to assess, monitor and improve the condition of our estate.
  • Ensuring accurate, reliable and comprehensive building asset data is maintained and used to support strategic decision making.
  • Leading the development and ongoing evolution of the Building Asset Management Database.
  • Working closely with Development, Maintenance, Assets & Estates and Capital Delivery teams to ensure the right processes and priorities are in place to maintain and improve our estate.
  • Providing technical input into long-term Property strategy and investment planning, ensuring building defects and asset risks are appropriately managed.
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement in building standards, engineering processes and safety performance.
  • Maintaining strong links with industry bodies and professional networks, ensuring Tesco remains aligned with emerging trends, legislation and best practice.
  • Sharing knowledge and best practice across the wider Tesco Group.
  • Championing a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous development.
