We are extensively growing our Global Art Team

As a Lead 3D Animator at 1518, you will work closely with the team to create skilled animation with strong acting, story-driven performances, and convincing motion that will bring our worlds and characters to life.

1518 studios are looking for a talented Lead Animator to join our global Art Team. You'll work on various games, producing high-quality animations ranging from stylized to realistic, across cinematic sequences and real-time motion. Your role involves understanding movement's intention and subject behavior, with a keen eye for 3D design, facial animation, and body mechanics, which should be showcased in a compelling reel.

This position offers significant responsibility and opportunities to develop your artistic, technical, and creative skills. We welcome applications from 2D and 3D artists capable of working in diverse art styles.

We are ideally seeking 3D Animators with 5+ years of industry experience, but talented, self-taught individuals or those from different creative backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Please share your portfolio or reel for review.

Requirements

  • BA in Art Media, graphic design, or relevant experience (e.g., fine arts, animation, illustration, digital arts, media arts, or MFA in animation or VFX).
  • Experience with AAA, Indie, PC, mobile games, or NFT projects, or a strong passion for gaming and industry knowledge.
  • Understanding of creative briefs, considering context, timescales, and constraints.
  • Ability to animate characters, props, and effects with narrative and life.
  • Excellent time management, multitasking, and deadline adherence.
  • Creative problem-solving skills balancing aesthetics and functionality.
  • Solid grasp of realistic and cartoon poses and keyframe animation.
  • Proficiency in facial animation with blendshapes or similar techniques.
  • Ability to generate multiple creative options and iterate effectively.
  • Knowledge of 3D animation techniques, motion design, camera principles, and working with Maya and motion capture data.
  • Experience with animation mockups and asset library creation.
  • Strong collaboration skills, receptive to feedback, and proactive in pipeline improvements.
  • Experience optimizing assets for in-game performance.
  • Proficiency in tools like Maya, After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Ability to draw in various styles, with knowledge of lighting, perspective, and shading.
  • Understanding of rigging processes and technical software.
  • Supportive attitude, willing to mentor team members, and take ownership.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Big bonus points if you...

  • Have locomotion animation experience.
  • Are proficient with Unity or other game engines, capable of importing/exporting and troubleshooting animations.
  • Can animate in 2D with confidence in techniques and effects.
