  • Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum
  • Work Days & Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, 37.5 hours per week
  • Working Policy: Flexible hybrid-working policy, with a minimum of two days a week from our Chester head office

About the Lead Analytics Engineer Role:

As a Lead Analytics Engineer, your role will be to lead a sprint team responsible for delivering analytics projects across the Forge Group. Reporting to the analytics manager, you will be responsible for creating robust, efficient, scalable, and integrated data models & products in both managerial and hands-on capacities.

You will speak the language of business and technical teams, translating data insights and analysis needs into models powered by the Data Platform. You will ensure data is ingested, transformed, scheduled, and presented to empower data-driven decisions.

You will be a trusted advisor to the business on data questions. This position suits a dynamic individual with a strong background in analytics, eager to contribute to a high-performing team’s success.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Lead a sprint team of engineers to deliver impactful data products and dashboards using SQL, Python, Power BI, MS Fabric, and Tableau.
  • Provide regular updates on team performance related to sprint goals, velocity, and wastage.
  • Provide clean, tested, transformed, and modelled data to empower end users.
  • Enhance and maintain existing data products and pipelines using appropriate technologies.
  • Apply software engineering best practices like version control and CI/CD to analytics code.
  • Collaborate with analytics and data science teams to deliver projects on time and to high standards.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to promote the good use of data.
  • Embed data visualization best practices, including data storytelling, for impactful insights.
  • Contribute to squad initiatives aligned with business goals.
  • Investigate and resolve data quality issues.
Skills and Qualifications:

We seek candidates who share our company goals, values, and ethos, and who can grow with us:

  • Bachelor's degree in a numerate discipline or equivalent analytical apprenticeship.
  • At least 2 years of line management experience.
  • Expert proficiency in SQL.
  • Understanding of data warehouse design principles (Kimball, ODS, staging).
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience with Python or similar object-oriented languages.
  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools and cloud data warehouses like MS Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
  • Experience creating reports and dashboards with Tableau or Power BI.
  • Ability to manage work deadlines and communicate progress effectively.
  • Ability to understand stakeholder needs and translate into technical requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship management at senior levels.
  • Proven mentoring and coaching abilities.
  • Experience working in agile/scrum environments.
  • Proficiency with JIRA, Bitbucket, or GitHub.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, or MS Fabric for ETL and semantic layer management.
  • Commercial awareness in holiday lettings, travel, or tourism sectors.
  • Experience with website/mobile analytics in e-Commerce.
  • Additional experience with Kafka, AWS products, or SQL Server data warehousing.
