Job description

BCG Expand — Project Lead | Central London

BCG Expand is a specialist firm providing unique data-driven business intelligence as a trusted advisor to senior executives across the world's leading financial services firms. Our work spans technology, operations, FinTech, and market data benchmarking, at the intersection of strategy, data, and global finance.

We're a close-knit, high-performing team that takes its work seriously and its people even more so. Here's what we offer:

  • Competitive salary, benchmarked to attract top talent
  • Stunning Central London office with a free drinks and snacks station
  • 25 days holiday, plus one additional day for every year of service
  • Private healthcare, because your health is a priority
  • Life insurance for peace of mind for you and yours
  • Performance bonus structure, so you're rewarded for your impact
  • Plus more, we keep adding to the package
The role

Our practice is built around two core business lines: e-trading and market data. This role sits deliberately outside both. You'll pick up the work that doesn't fit neatly into either division, cross-practice initiatives, brokerage fee projects, new product launches, and the pieces of work that need momentum but don't have an obvious home. You'll also take pressure off senior leadership by owning initiatives that have become bottlenecked at the top.

This isn't a role for someone who wants a fixed process to follow. It's a role for someone entrepreneurial, adaptable, and genuinely energised by ambiguity, someone who can walk into a new team, understand what's needed, drive it forward, and then hand it over cleanly rather than trying to hold onto control.

What you will do
  • Picking up cross-practice projects that fall outside e-trading and market data, including work on brokerage fees and new product launches
  • Stepping into initiatives where senior leadership has become a bottleneck and driving them to completion
  • Managing multiple workstreams at once, often with shifting priorities and no fixed playbook
  • Dropping into established teams to drive a specific initiative forward, then handing it over once it's on track
  • Building trust quickly with people who didn't ask for your help but need it
Client & stakeholder work
  • Working directly with clients and internal stakeholders across Asset & Wealth Management, Investment Banking and Commercial Banking
  • Translating complex, data-heavy work into clear recommendations for senior audiences
  • Representing the practice at client roundtables and industry forums where relevant
  • Managing one direct report, supporting their development and workload
  • Prior line management experience is a plus but not a requirement, what matters more is the ability to bring people with you
  • As the practice sits within BCG, there's the opportunity to contribute to BCG cases directly, working alongside one of the world's leading strategy firms and gaining exposure to senior stakeholders beyond financial services
What we're looking for
  • At least 5 years' experience in financial services or consulting, ideally within a bank, asset manager, or professional services firm. This isn't a role for someone early in their career, we need someone who has already led work independently, not just contributed to it.
  • Direct client-facing experience. You're comfortable presenting analysis and recommendations to senior stakeholders without close supervision.
  • Strong data and numerical fluency. You don't need to be a specialist in e-trading or market data, but you're sharp with numbers and confident working across large or messy datasets.
  • A track record of driving projects forward in teams you don't formally manage, and the ability to hand ownership back cleanly once the job is done, rather than holding onto control.
  • Comfortable managing people. You'll have one direct report from day one. Prior formal line management experience is a plus but not a dealbreaker if everything else is strong.
  • Adaptable and entrepreneurial. You're comfortable when the workflow changes week to week and you don't need a fixed process to do good work, you build the process as you go.
