Job summary

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Lead/Senior Aerodynamicist for a 12-month on-site contract at Warton or Brough. Roles focus on delivering advanced aerodynamics for air vehicles, with responsibilities spanning research, design analysis, testing and flight clearance.

The position requires 8–10 years of post-graduate experience in aerodynamics, strong collaboration skills, and relevant degrees. On-site work with agile governance and toolset development is expected.

Qualifications

  • Essential STEM degree at Bachelor/Master level or higher.
  • Postgraduate (PhD) in aeronautical area preferred.

  • Develop toolsets and governance aligning with Agile practices.

Job description

BAE Systems - Lead Aerodynamicist & Senior Aerodynamicist

Lead role - £63.96 per hour Umbrella

Senior role - £53.24 per hour Umbrella

12 month contract - onsite at Warton or Brough sites.

This is an Aerodynamics Discipline (E825) senior role within the airframe engineering Flight Sciences delivery team, supporting current and future projects.

The role will provide the future generation of aerodynamic subject matter with expertise in one (or at most two) of the following specific aerodynamics skills areas:
  • Flight Control Law Development
  • Flight Mechanics, Stability & Control
  • Air Data System Aerodynamics
  • Aerostructures (Static / Dynamic Aerodynamic Loads, Flutter, Buffet & Aero-servo-elastics)
  • Near Field Acoustics & Vibration
  • Configuration Aerodynamic Design
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Propulsion Integration (Aerodynamics)
  • Air Vehicle Performance
  • Stores Release And Jettison
  • Aerodynamic Methods Development
Core Duties

Typical duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Aerodynamics support to the wide range of BAE Systems current and future AIR products.
  • Aerodynamics related research, design, computational analysis, testing and flight clearance for complex air vehicles.
  • Aerodynamics Toolset Development & Digital Transformation. _and Governance: Ensure Agile practices align with organisational policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge:

Minimum of 8-10 years post graduate experience in the Aerodynamics domain in a research or industrial environment, with relevant specialist aerodynamics knowledge

Skills:
  • Experience of working with customers, suppliers, partners, researchers.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and team skills.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors/Masters Degree level qualification in a STEM subject (Essential)
  • Post Graduate (PhD) qualification or equivalent research in an aeronautical related area

About the team you'll be working in
  • Expectation of 4 days a week on site, Mon-Thurs is preferred.
  • Whole project stands at approx. 250 people, project managing a team of 30-50.
  • The Air Sector team contribute to this endeavour by developing the Functional Requirements of the Active Vehicle Control (AVC) system the system responsible for controlling the Boat's depth, pitch, trim and position within the waters.
