Job description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Lay Chaplain. This is a vital role within the school and it will to some extent be shaped by the gifts and character of the successful applicant.

Required from September 2025

Lay Chaplain

It is essential that the person appointed is a practising Catholic who is able to relate to pupils, staff and parents of all faiths and backgrounds.

This is a part-time (0.6 - 0.8FTE, ie 3-4 days per week) role during term time, with a limited amount of work in the school holidays in order to lead pilgrimages, trips and retreats.

For the right candidate this role could be full-time, combined with a teaching timetable in the RE Department.

Accommodation may be available.

Interviews will take place as and when we receive applications. Early applications are encouraged, and we reserve the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

  • child protection, discipline, health and safety
  • promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
