Job summary

A leading company is seeking a qualified Lawyer specializing in Homelessness Law to provide expert legal advice and manage legal challenges for local authorities. Job description

Lawyer - Homelessness Law (Local Authority)

Start: ASAP

End: 30 November 2025

Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday

Rate: £55 - £65 per hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on the statutory responsibilities of local authorities under homelessness legislation.
  • Respond to and manage legal challenges from applicants, legal representatives, and advocacy groups regarding housing decisions.
  • Support and advise Team Leaders and Duty Managers, particularly on complex or escalated cases.
  • Draft formal responses and correspondence (both electronic and paper-based) related to legal queries and appeals.
  • Engage professionally with applicants, advocates, and legal representatives via telephone and written communication.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of relevant case law, statutory provisions, and regulatory guidance to day-to-day legal decision-making.
Requirements
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practising certificate (England & Wales).
  • At least 2 years' experience working specifically on homelessness applications and related legal matters.
  • Demonstrable experience in public sector housing law and litigation (preferably within a local authority setting).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload efficiently.
