The Sun legal team is seeking an editorial lawyer to advise on its editorial legal matters for The Sun, The Sun on Sunday, and Sun Online. Additionally, you will assist as an editorial lawyer across NewsUK’s broadcast titles.

Your Role

As an NGN Editorial Lawyer, you will:

  • Provide expert legal advice to ensure compliance with current legislation, regulations, and best practices for The Sun, Sun on Sunday, and Sun Online.
  • Offer editorial legal advice to News Broadcasting titles.
  • Exercise sound professional judgment in providing advice to editors and journalists before and after publication in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to identify significant issues and report to the head of department.
What We’re Looking For
  • Ideally, a solicitor or barrister with post-qualification experience in media law or litigation.
  • Experience advising on pre-publication issues such as libel, privacy, contempt, copyright, Data Protection, and reporting restrictions is preferred but not essential.
  • A strong interest in free speech, public interest, and investigative journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and resolve issues.
  • Ability to interact positively at all levels within a legal department and report to the head of department.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and support the legal team.
  • Commitment to supporting the company’s values, ethical standards, and diversity principles.
