Law Costs Draftsman (Negotiator) - Sheffield or Manchester

Join Irwin Mitchell as a Law Costs Draftsman (Negotiator) in either Sheffield or Manchester.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Costs Negotiator to manage and negotiate legal costs, ensuring optimal outcomes for our clients. Your responsibilities will include progressing cases through detailed assessment, advising clients, drafting Replies to Points of Dispute, interlocutory applications, and instructing advocates. Court advocacy may be required.

Minimum two years’ experience in costs drafting or related roles is preferred. Strong analytical and communication skills, along with a good understanding of legal cost procedures, are essential.

Location

Based in Manchester or Sheffield.

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate legal costs with opponents to achieve favorable settlements.
• Prepare and analyze detailed bills of costs.
• Draft Points of Dispute, Replies, and costs schedules.
• Handle documentation for proceedings and court appearances.
• Advise clients throughout the costs recovery process.

Candidate Profile

• Experience as Costs Negotiator, Costs Lawyer, or similar in-house or external role.
• Understanding of costs case law.
• Excellent stakeholder communication skills.
• Desirable: Legal or financial qualifications (e.g., ILEX Part 1 Year 1) or law degree.
