Job description

Late Support Worker

The Nelson Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by addiction and trauma to build safer, more stable futures. Within our residential women’s service in Stroud, we offer trauma‑informed care in a structured, supportive environment where recovery can begin and lives can be rebuilt.

Our approach is shaped by years of experience and colleagues with lived experience, creating a culture grounded in empathy and real insight. This enables us to provide care that not only meets practical needs but supports lasting change.

We are looking for a Late Support Worker to join our team, providing consistent, compassionate support to women in residential treatment outside of core daytime hours—helping to maintain a safe, stable environment through the evening.

What does that look like day to day?
  • Being a consistent and reassuring presence, helping maintain safety and stability during quieter hours
  • Supporting residents to follow treatment expectations and stay connected to their recovery
  • Welcoming new arrivals and helping them settle into the house
  • Carrying out key tasks such as room checks, medication and health & safety checks
  • Responding calmly to challenging situations, including offering de‑escalation support
  • Keeping accurate records and clear handovers to support continuity of care
What You’ll Bring To The Role
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel when required
  • Confidence in working independently and making considered decisions
  • The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Understanding of residential treatment, safeguarding, or working with people affected by trauma or substance use
  • A calm, steady approach, with the ability to respond thoughtfully under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail when recording and sharing information
  • Willingness to develop skills such as medication administration and relevant training
  • Flexibility to work a rolling shift pattern, including evenings
What Our Clients Need Most
  • A consistent and reliable presence that helps them feel safe, particularly outside of core hours
  • A non‑judgemental and compassionate approach, with belief in their ability to recover
How We Support You
  • Salary: £25,000 - £26,500 (pro rata, depending on experience)
  • Hours: 21 per week, rolling shift pattern 4pm - 10pm
  • Holidays: 25 days plus public holidays (pro‑rata)
  • Pension: 6% employer contribution
  • Investment in your development through training, supervision and career pathways
  • Access to wellbeing and employee assistance support
  • Death in service benefit (2x salary)
