A healthcare provider in Bristol is looking for an independent practitioner to offer fitting and removal of LARC intra-uterine coils and contraceptive implants. This role requires technical nursing skills and the ability to manage complex patient needs. The position includes working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide quality care and advice to patients, ensuring they have informed options and support throughout the process.
Air BalloonSurgery have an exciting opportunity for an independent practitioner withexperience of fitting and removal of LARC intra-uterine coils and subdermalcontraceptive implants.
Our LARC service provisionis currently managed by two of our GPs and we are aiming to expand our serviceprovision to offer additional appointments for fitting of LARC intra-uterinecoils and subdermal contraceptive implants over one 3.5-4 hour sessionper month, including pre-fit assessment and counselling and post-fitadvice.
The post is an integral part of themultidisciplinary team, responsible for the delivery of highly technical andspecialised nursing skills which will include but not be limited to
Assessment and history taking
Clinical examination, including bimanual
Instigation and interpretation of diagnosticinvestigations
Identifying appropriate methods ofcontraception
initiation of treatment and plans of care,including independent assessment for provision of medications
Provision of all methods of LARC followingdiscussion and assessment ensuring patient can make an informed choice andconsent
Appropriate onward referral to other healthand social care professionals if appropriate

JobPurpose
The post holder will be able to understandcomplex care presentations and establish effective care pathways to address anyneeds in addition to their LARC requirements. This will include those who needadditional consideration due to their complex social, emotional, psychological,and physical needs.
The post holder will provide a high level ofpersonal care to patients to ensure they are treated with dignity and respectat all times, are provided with high quality care, clear and understandableinformation in a format/language they understand and feel their individualneeds have been respected and met. The post holder is accountable for their ownpractice without direct supervision and will be a direct provider ofhigher-level nursing practice to patients with contraceptive needs.

Key Dutiesand Responsibilities
Analytical Data and Information
Analyse and interpretphysical signs and presenting symptoms in relation to investigative findings tosupport a pathway of care for the client
Analyse and interpretresults and discuss findings with the client offering information, support andreferral where necessary
Analysis of clinicalrecords identifying any issues of concern to senior clinical team or providetreat-ment within scope of practice/competence.
Planning and Organisation of Work
This is anindependent practitioner post
The patient contact isgenerally on a one to one basis, with those patients whose birth gender isfemale
Able to planown workload and work independently
Carry outnursing duties within Practice Policies and protocols, service procedures andguidelines according to competency and provide feedback on issues of concern toLARC Lead GP
Able to planwork for specialist services and be able to plan work and implement carepathways as delegated by the clinical team
Able to workwithin therequirements of the Bristol City Council GP Sexual Health specification;
Responsibility,for working with medical and nursing colleagues, for the delivery ofcomprehensive LARC services for the practice population
Follow Practiceguidelines on confidentiality; adhere to the law regarding sexual health adviceto those under sixteen years; Follow organisational policy and good practiceassessment regarding safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults, followingappropriate Practice Safeguarding policies
Fitting andremoval of contraceptive subdermal implants in line with practice protocol andwith overall supervision provided by the LARC Lead GP
Fitting andremoval of contraceptive IUD/IUCDs in line with practice protocol and withoverall supervision provided by the LARC Lead GP
Carry outCervical Cytology screening
Counselling andIssuing of Emergency contraception under prescribing supervision of GP.
Provide acomprehensive discussion in the event of an unplanned pregnancy and refer toappropriate agencies as necessary
Perform a holisticassessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
Deliver care topatients pertaining to their sexual health needs in line with current FSRHguidance
Assess, advise,prescribe, administer and carry out the full range of LARC procedures requiredby patients, following discussion with the individual as to their contraceptionchoices, in line with FSRH current guidance.
Satisfy FSRHrequirements forfive yearly LoC re-certification and updatingprofessional practice and reaccreditation
Carry outcompetent clinical examination of female patients, including cervical andbimanual examination
Be able to diagnose andclinically manage presentations of sexually transmitted infections and relatedconditions, and referral to appropriate Sexual Health Services providingpatients with appropriate advice. Recognise complex issues relating to patientssexual health needs and seek appropriate advice where necessary.
Ensure knowledge ofsexual health, in particular contraception is up to date and follow Nationalrecommendations and guidelines for their management. Have an understanding ofHIV and its im-pact on sexual health care and contraception choices
To be competentin the management of under 16-year olds and vulnerable adults, working withinFraser Guidelines and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team andsafeguarding team as appropriate
If currently not a NMPthen the use of PGDs is essential
Maintain accuratecontemporaneous electronic patient records, in line with local and nationalin-formation governance policy/legislation
Interpret resultsaccurately and discuss with patients and associated healthcare professionals(HCP) as required. This may include providing advice to HCP outside theservice. Manage results in a timely manner, in accordance with practice policy
Always communicate withusers of the service in a sensitive, non-judgemental and supportive manner.Subject matter may be complex and emotive, which may involve breaking badnews.
