Landscaping Operations Manager (870) Southampton, England
Salary: GBP40000 - GBP45000 per annum
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Landscaping Operations Manager to join a well-established and growing facilities and grounds maintenance business.
This is a field-based permanent position, managing a portfolio of landscaping and grounds maintenance contracts across Hampshire and the surrounding areas, with sites extending from Southampton towards Reading.
The role has been created following continued company growth and a restructure within the department, making this an excellent opportunity to join the business at an exciting stage of its development.
Reporting to the Head of Landscaping, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational and commercial performance of your contracts, managing landscaping teams, subcontractors, client relationships, budgets and service delivery.
This isn't a heavily sales-focused position. However, you will be commercially aware and comfortable identifying additional works and opportunities within existing client relationships.
Previous landscaping or grounds maintenance industry experience is essential, along with experience managing teams and working to operational and financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of landscaping and grounds maintenance contracts across Hampshire and surrounding areas
- Oversee both static sites and mobile landscaping teams
- Manage daily schedules, operatives, subcontractors and resources
- Ensure contracts are delivered to agreed standards, timescales and budgets
- Monitor team performance and address performance or disciplinary matters when required
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients
- Attend regular client and site meetings
- Identify and price additional works within existing contracts
- Prepare quotations for additional landscaping works
- Support the Head of Landscaping with bids, tenders and contract reviews
- Monitor contract expenditure, budgets and profitability
- Assist with forecasting and monthly financial reporting
- Work to agreed operational and financial targets
- Liaise with foremen, ground staff, subcontractors and the service desk
- Monitor training requirements and help develop the horticultural knowledge of landscaping teams
- Ensure depots and yards are organised and compliant
- Ensure Health & Safety and Environmental standards are maintained across all contracts
- Support the introduction of service improvements and new ways of working
Requirements
- Previous landscaping or grounds maintenance industry experience essential
- Minimum 2 years' operational management experience
- Experience managing landscaping or grounds maintenance teams
- Experience managing both static sites and mobile teams advantageous
- Proven ability to work to operational and financial targets
- Good commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and costs
- Comfortable pricing and quoting additional works
- Strong client relationship management skills
- Good horticultural and grounds maintenance knowledge
- Confident managing staff, subcontractors and suppliers
- Competent using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Able to manage multiple sites and changing priorities
- Full clean UK driving licence essential

Working Location
This is an on-the-road role managing a portfolio of sites across Hampshire and surrounding areas, broadly covering Southampton through towards Reading.
Regular travel between client sites will form an important part of the position.
