Job description

If you enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, this could be the perfect job for you!

The Landscape Construction Team undertakes a wide range of hard and soft landscaping projects, including garden design, construction, and the installation of play equipment and surfacing across Dorset. Our sites include school grounds, care homes, libraries, Dorset Council properties, and Town and Parish Councils.

We provide an in-house service to the Council, offering quick response solutions to issues and requirements throughout Dorset.

You will work as part of a team, assisting your Team Foreman to maintain high standards and ensure cost-effective delivery. Being a team player is essential, along with self-motivation and a strong work ethic.

Good communication and presentation skills are required, as you will interact with clients and members of the public from time to time.

As a member of the Grounds Maintenance team, you will represent the service, promote its work, and advocate for Dorset Council and its partners.

Previous experience in landscape or building construction is advantageous but not essential, as in-house training will be provided.

Within the Place Directorate, the Environment & Wellbeing Service combines frontline coast and countryside services with property management functions. Dorset’s environment supports economic growth and community wellbeing, and the service manages a wide range of public assets to benefit local communities.

Landscape Services provides asset management, construction, and maintenance schemes, including designing out maintenance liabilities, enhancing recreational and educational spaces for schools, and supporting various teams such as Greenspace, Arboriculture, and Environmental Advice.

For more information or an informal discussion about the role, contact Nigel Dibden at 07920 020699. This position involves working with children and/or vulnerable adults and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check, in line with our policy on the employment of ex-offenders.
