Job summary

Land Studio Ltd, a fully integrated landscape architecture, ecology and drainage engineering studio, is seeking experienced Landscape Architects and Senior Landscape Architects based in the UK. A Different Way to Practise

Across our industry, we've seen a shift towards larger, more corporate structures, where decision‑making sits further and further from the people actually doing the work. This can often mean slower, more layered processes, and a more distant relationship between client and designer.

We think there's a better way to practise landscape architecture.

At Land Studio, decisions are made by the people doing the work, not signed off several tiers up a corporate structure. You'll have a direct hand in the growth and direction of the business itself, not just the projects within it. You'll build real, personal relationships with clients that last from first sketch to final delivery, not handed off between departments along the way. And because ecology, drainage engineering and landscape design all sit in-house under one roof, you'll have genuine input and control across the full external design of a project — not a narrow slice of it, waiting on sign-off from a team you've never met.

About Us

We are a fully integrated landscape architecture, ecology and drainage engineering design studio working across residential, education, visitor destination and mixed-use projects. Climate change and biodiversity loss are not challenges facing our industry, they are challenges facing the planet. We believe design has a real part to play in addressing them, and every project we take on is a chance to have a genuine, positive impact: enhancing biodiversity, responding to the water cycle, and connecting people with nature in a way that leaves places better than we found them.

We're a growing, independent studio based in a city centre studio in Chester and a satellite studio in Cardiff, and we're looking to add to our landscape team.

About the Role

This is for a UK based candidate isn't an entry-level or early-career opening. Much of our work is delivered by individuals working independently on their own projects, rather than in large teams, so we're looking for candidates who already have the depth of experience to work confidently under their own initiative from day one.

We're open to speaking with candidates at two levels, whichever fits your background:

Landscape Architect

• An experienced UK based landscape architect, typically with 5–10 years in practice. Chartership is not a requirement at this level — we place equal weight on demonstrable experience and design ability.

Senior Landscape Architect

• You're UK based and chartered (or close to it) with strong design and technical experience, ready to lead projects and mentor junior team members.
• You'll have the full support of our wider landscape, ecology and engineering team around you, but we're looking for independence of thought and a genuine sense of ownership over your work — someone who can be trusted to manage their own time, their own projects, and their own decisions.
  

What You'll Bring

• A genuine commitment to nature-led, sustainable design and to making a real difference on climate change and biodiversity loss
• Confidence to work independently, with strong personal time management and the ability to prioritise across multiple live projects
• High-level proficiency in relevant drawing and design packages
• Good working knowledge of the UK planning system (with demonstrable past experience of how you have applied UK planning legislation in your work), and of landscape and ecological designations, including experience in writing and reviewing design-based landscape assessments
• Strong written communication skills — you can write clearly and persuasively for reports, appraisals and planning submissions
• Confident verbal communication, comfortable liaising directly with clients and consultants
• For Landscape Architect: circa 5–10 years' UK based post-graduate design experience, whether chartered or not
• For Senior Landscape Architect: chartered status (or near completion) and 5+ years' UK based design experience, with some experience supervising or mentoring others

How We Work

We're entirely flexible on how and where you work. Our preference is for some studio time in Chester typically 2–3 days a week, or Cardiff 1 day per week, but we're genuinely open to discussing fully remote working for the right candidate. For remote workers, our preference would be for someone able to get to either studio a couple of days a month, so you might be based in the North West or South Wales, for example, rather than further afield in the South East of England. All candidates must be UK based.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of £32,500 to £45,000, dependent on experience, a range of benefits, support towards chartership, ongoing professional development, and the opportunity to have a genuine voice in the future direction of the studio.
