How You'll Make a Difference

As Landfill Co-ordinator, you will be solely responsible for the care and aftercare of a closed landfill at Harnhill. In this unique role, you will take the lead on maintaining the engineering of the site, taking samples at monitoring points, reporting information and managing wide and varied contractors to ensure that the closed landfill site is being managed effectively for the council.

As Landfill Co-ordinator, you will be solely responsible for the care and aftercare of a closed landfill at Harnhill. In this unique role, you will take the lead on maintaining the engineering of the site, taking samples at monitoring points, reporting information and managing wide and varied contractors to ensure that the closed landfill site is being managed effectively for the council.

What You Will Be Doing

  • As the lead contact, you will manage relationships with suppliers and stakeholders of the site including Flextricity and Environmental Agency inspectors.
  • Daily, you will make sure that all activities comply with permissions, licences and good industry practice, undertaking environmental monitoring of gas, leachate, surface and ground water in accordance with the working plan good industry practice.
  • It will be your responsibility to carry out site level surveys and surface inspections including drainage, ditches, vegetation and grass, leachate collection and disposal arrangements.
  • You will submit quarterly reports to the Environment Agency and ensure that accurate records of all site operations are maintained.
  • Leading on Health and Safety on site, you will update site risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work and arrange servicing, and repair works to ensure functionality of equipment and to meet all legislative requirements.
  • A key part of the role will be to co-ordinate staffing cover for the site and conduct training for team members to include gas and water sampling.
  • You will oversee budgets and make sure they are within profiled spend, raising purchase orders and approving invoices for works and servicing of equipment.

What We Need From You

  • It is essential that you have relevant experience or a qualification equivalent to degree level in waste management or environmental science and civil engineering.
  • You will hold or be working towards a technical qualification in Engineering or Waste Management.
  • We require you to demonstrate specialist knowledge and practical experience of environmental monitoring and working on closed landfill site with proven experience of interpreting data sources to develop recommendations.
  • You will have a good working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as using data storage systems.
  • You will have good written and verbal communication and be confident communicating with senior officers and a range of stakeholders, including members of the public.
  • Proven ability to monitor and or report on budgets is required as you will be dealing with financial information and resources.

  • You will be both office based and working outside in all weather conditions.
  • Interviews will be held on the 9th and 10th June 2025
