The role

Our work is all about securing the land rights required to develop the proposed 400kV overhead lines, underground cables, and substations that will keep the country powered with clean, sustainable energy. It’s a crucial role - one that blends the expertise of a land agent with the complexities of large-scale utilities projects. If you’ve worked in land management, you’ll know that no two days are the same, and that’s certainly true here at SSEN Transmission. A typical day might involve:

  • Liaising with landowners and occupiers over proposed route and site selection.
  • Assessing the impact of infrastructure on land and businesses.
  • Negotiating wayleaves or servitudes and ensuring best practice in land management.
  • There’s also a strong element of valuation and compensation assessment, making sure agreements are fair and balanced for all parties involved.

You have

To thrive in this role, organisation and proactivity are key. Our work is project based, and with so many internal and external stakeholders, you need to be a great communicator and problem solver. We’re looking for:

  • People who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, who can see the bigger picture while also managing the fine details that make projects run smoothly.
  • People with a good understanding of landownership systems in Scotland and ideally some experience in energy networks or other relevant utility or land management practices.
  • Practical knowledge of land management matters and good experience in dealing with land and property rights, including experience in wayleaves, servitudes, land acquisition and the principles of compensation.
  • People who are well organised, forward thinking, and confident managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and find practical solutions.
