The Role
REPORTS TO: Head of Land
LOCATION: Edinburgh
The Land Manager will be an integral member of the Haldane Energy team, specifically focusing on securing land rights across all facets of the land assembly strategy as well assisting with the wider commercial and development teams as and when required.
The successful candidate will be highly professional and aspirational with a strong interest and experience within the land industry. This is an exciting opportunity to join a business with a growth mindset and be a significant contributor to its continued success.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the development and readiness of hydrogen and long duration energy storage (LDES) projects as part of the Development team with a primary focus on securing the necessary land rights for designated project locations, both at land level and subterranean.
- Arrange and manage access to land for non-intrusive and intrusive environmental and engineering surveys as required for the development of the project sites.
- Provide guidance to assist with the land acquisition strategy, including identification of opportunities to outperform milestones.
- Produce and maintain an accurate database covering landowner or occupier contacts, to support if necessary, achieving a positive outcome through a compulsory purchase order (CPO) process.
- Continue to develop and maintain the relationships with the groups network of landowners and agents.
- Positively engage with directors, project managers, designers, and support staff to ensure that strategically important programme milestones are achieved, with risks and issues identified and mitigated at an early stage.
- Work with teams of externally appointed land surveyors and agents that will engage directly with landowners and occupiers on behalf of Haldane Energy to achieve necessary agreements.
- Maintain as part of the wider team, accurate land-related budgets for all commercial discussions and report directly to Finance Department to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Work with Haldane's external professional support team primarily lawyers, agents and consultants.
- Be aware and develop relationships with key stakeholders. Provide and support escalation process for challenging engagements.
- Production of high quality maps, charts, reports and other data deliverables for internal and external issue to local drives as well as online GIS portals;

- Strong people skills with an ability to create and build lasting, trusted, and meaningful relationships with a diverse range of counterparties.
- Confidence, presentation skills, and an ability to think on their feet with a requirement to chair and present to large meetings of landowners and stakeholders.
Experience & Background
- An experienced and appropriately qualified professional (RICS or similar) with a proven track record of success within a similarly challenging role.
- Strong commercial acumen with the skills to develop commercial contracts and negotiations.
- Experience of progressing and managing land agreements and relationships for linear infrastructure development.
- Comprehensive understanding of farming and land management practice is useful but not essential
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to drive business initiatives forward and to embrace change, efficiencies, and new innovations.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with landowners to further Haldane Energy's interests.
- A good strategic thinker who can assesses situations quickly and will resolve issues confidently and decisively.
- Desired but not essential experience with GIS providing basic mapping for HoTs and other plan requirements.
- Able to function well within an entrepreneurial team environment whilst at the same time fostering a team culture.
- A proactive self-starter with an ability to manage their own workload, whilst committing to spend a large amount of traveling and interacting with key land stakeholders.
- Someone who is passionate, determined and who is looking for an opportunity to make their mark.

The role will require periodic travel to industry and corporate events, as well as to portfolio sites throughout the UK.
