Job summary

Berkeley Group Plc, via Berkeley Strategic Land, seeks a Land Graduate to support identifying, acquiring and managing strategic land across the South East. You will work with a dynamic team from Taplow, with travel across the region as required.

Based in Taplow, you will assist with land appraisals, financial analyses, offers to landowners, and due diligence. A University Degree and ongoing professional membership are preferred.

Qualifications

  • University Degree (required).
  • Progress towards RICS Planning & Development or RTPI membership.

Responsibilities

  • Support land team in identifying strategic land opportunities within the South East.
  • Assist in preparing detailed appraisals and financial analyses for land opportunities.
  • Assist with offers to landowners and negotiate terms.
  • Prepare due diligence prior to offers and contracts; articulate opportunities and risks.
  • Appraise sites to establish land value and prepare acquisition packs for Main Board Approval.
  • Assist management of existing land assets and coordinate external parties as needed.
  • Support Planning team as required.
  • Report to Land Manager and collaborate with Strategic Land senior management.

Job description

Berkeley Strategic Land secures long term strategic land for production and delivery by Berkeley. Through collaborative working with local authorities and other stakeholders, Berkeley promotes sites through the Local Plan process and subsequently seeks planning consent.

Berkeley Strategic Land draws on the financial strength of The Berkeley Group and can be flexible and innovative in its approach to securing new business through the use of option agreements, freehold purchases or other innovative structures that align the interests of Berkeley and land owners.

Berkeley Strategic Land is based at the Berkeley Oxford and Chiltern regional head offices in Taplow, Buckinghamshire. The successful applicant will be based in Taplow but with extensive travel throughout the South East as required.

What You'll Be Doing

Working as part of an ambitious and dynamic multi-disciplinary team the main purpose of the role is to support the Land team in all activities related to identifying, acquiring and managing strategic land on behalf of Berkeley Strategic, and also to support the Planning team as required.

  • Supporting the land team in identifying strategic land opportunities located within the Company’s area of search, predominantly in the South East of England.
  • Supporting the land team in preparing detailed appraisal of strategic land opportunities, identifying constraints and opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed financial appraisals in order to assess risk and return.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of offers to land owners to acquire development sites and negotiating commercial terms.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed due diligence prior to the submission of offers and exchange of contracts to clearly identify and articulate the opportunities and risks with the proposed land acquisition.
  • Appraise a site to establish land value and writing reports on your findings including preparation and collation of land acquisition packs for Main Board Approval.
  • Assist with the management of existing land assets including liaison with and coordination of tenants, managing agents, legal advisors and other contractors as required.
  • Support the Planning team as required.
  • The Land Graduate will report to the Land Manager but will play an important role working collaboratively with the senior management team of the Strategic Land business.

The standard default full-time working hours in the office are 8am-5pm with core working hours 9am-4pm.
