London or Edinburgh (Hybrid Working) - Permanent

Alexander Associates has been exclusively mandated by a pioneering UK-based green energy company to identify and recruit a Project Development Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and mission-driven team leading the development of cutting-edge decarbonisation projects across the UK, with a core focus on green hydrogen infrastructure.

You will play a critical role in land development, planning, environmental and safety permitting, and stakeholder management for large-scale renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee land development activities including site identification, acquisition (lease/purchase), surveys, and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Lead the planning application process and ensure all regulatory planning consents are obtained.
  • Manage environmental and safety permitting (e.g., Hazardous Substance Consent, COMAH).
  • Interface with regulatory bodies, consultants, and local stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Identify risks to project delivery and develop mitigation strategies alongside Project Managers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Technical, Asset Management) to align development with engineering and operational requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation including permits, contracts, and status reports.

About You

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project development for infrastructure, renewable energy, or related sectors (e.g. solar, wind, grid, water).
  • Strong experience in land acquisition, planning permissions, and environmental/safety permitting in the UK.
  • Background in Planning, Environmental Sciences, Land Development, or Surveying is ideal.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting projects through pre-feasibility to investment committee approval.
  • Comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and project elements across a complex regulatory landscape.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and GIS Mapping tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Planning, Environmental Science, Surveying, or Engineering.
  • Chartered status (RTPI or RICS) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Prior exposure to hydrogen, low-carbon, or Net Zero infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
