Job summary

Princess Yachts Limited in Plymouth is seeking skilled laminators to join the Composites team. You will laminate GRP components using wet lay‑up and infusion techniques, laying up fiberglass and other materials in moulds to produce high‑quality parts for luxury yachts.

Ideal candidates have hands‑on experience with laminating, tool handling, and a strong understanding of materials. Training is provided at our learning & Development Centre, with 4‑day weeks and site‑based roles across five

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar laminator role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare moulds such as hulls, decks, trays and canopies before gel coat.
  • Work with resins, gel coats and catalysts.
  • Apply gel coat, fibre glass or carbon mat and resin to moulds (open and closed moulding).
  • Install basic structural components as required from drawings.
  • Release products from mould tools safely.
  • Carry out resin infusion and dry lay-up as required.
  • Perform thickness checks for gel application and identify air voids in lamination.
  • Maintain high quality and meet project deadlines for luxury yachts.
  • Keep a clean, safe and organised workspace and follow 5S rules.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and wear PPE.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure workflow.

4 day working week Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 17:00

Opportunities available across five site locations in Plymouth

At Princess Yachts, we build some of the world’s finest luxury motor yachts through exceptional craftsmanship, teamwork, and attention to detail. We are looking for practical, hands‑on individuals to join our Composites team as Laminators.

The role includes manufacture of GRP components using wet lay‑up / infusion techniques and ideal candidates will have hands‑on experience in composite lamination processes. Candidates should have a strong understanding of materials, tools, and techniques used to produce composite components. You will be responsible for laying up fiberglass and other composite materials in mould tools to create high‑quality components that meet our high performance and quality standards.

You do not need previous boatbuilding experience to apply. We’d like to hear from people who have experience in:

  • Composite manufacturing
  • Automotive repair or bodywork
  • Aerospace or aviation manufacturing
  • Fibreglass or GRP production
  • Paint spraying or industrial finishing
Main responsibilities:
  • Prepare moulds e.g., hulls, decks, trays and canopies and small moulds prior to applying gel coat
  • Work with a range of products including resins, gel coats and catalysts
  • Apply gel coat, fibre glass / carbon mat and resin to moulds (open and closed moulding techniques)
  • Install basic structural components as required according to drawings
  • Proficient at safely releasing products from mould tools
  • Complex secondary bonding / structural bonding techniques
  • Resin infusion - ability to apply dry lay‑up, consumables and infusion bag
  • Conduct thickness checks for gel application and identify possible air voids in lamination
  • Ensure work is completed to company quality standards and within project deadlines for our luxury yachts
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment, adhering to 5S.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE (supplied for relevant task)
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient workflow and project completion
Knowledge and experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar role
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance
  • Strong knowledge of laminating manufacturing methods, including open and closed moulding production techniques (desirable)
  • Extensive range of experience of hand and air power tools
  • Ability to read and follow drawing instructions for completion of product
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality work
  • Team player, ready to adapt to any production line and transfer skill set depending on business requirements
  • On the success of your application, you will be given guidance / training in our dedicated learning & Development Centre.
