Job summary

Build Recruitment is seeking experienced Laggers / Thermal Insulation Operatives for multiple projects across London. You will install thermal and acoustic insulation on pipework, ductwork and mechanical services, working in plant rooms and M&E areas.

The role requires proven insulation experience, ability to read drawings, and good knowledge of safety on construction sites. Immediate starts available on selected projects across schools, hospitals, offices and hotels.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Lagger / Thermal Insulation Operative.
• Ability to read and work from drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Competent with relevant hand tools and power tools.
• Good understanding of construction-site health & safety.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Install thermal insulation to pipework, ductwork and mechanical services.
• Lag cold and hot water pipework.
• Insulate heating and chilled-water pipework.
• Install insulation to HVAC and ventilation ductwork.
• Work within plant rooms and M&E service areas.
• Measure, cut and fit insulation materials accurately.
• Install vapour barriers and protective finishes.
• Install pre-formed or fabricated metal/PVC cladding.
• Work from drawings and manufacturer instructions.
• Maintain a clean and safe working area.
• Follow RAMS and site safety procedures.
• Coordinate works with other trades and site management.

We are currently looking for experienced Laggers / Thermal Insulation Operatives for a number of projects across London.

We are looking for skilled operatives with a genuine background in thermal insulation and lagging, working across commercial construction projects including schools, hospitals, offices, hotels, residential developments, plant rooms and major M&E installations.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Laggers looking for consistent work on established London projects.

THE ROLEAs a Lagger / Thermal Insulation Operative, you will be responsible for the installation of thermal and acoustic insulation systems across a range of mechanical services.

Typical works will include:

• Installing thermal insulation to pipework, ductwork and associated mechanical services
• Lagging hot and cold water pipework
• Insulating heating and chilled-water pipework
• Installing insulation to HVAC and ventilation ductwork
• Working within plant rooms and M&E service areas
• Installing insulation to valves, flanges, bends, tanks and associated equipment
• Measuring, cutting and fitting insulation materials accurately
• Installing vapour barriers and protective finishes where required
• Installing pre-formed or fabricated metal/PVC cladding
• Working with materials such as mineral wool, Rockwool, glass fibre, cellular glass, PIR/PUR and elastomeric insulation
• Jointing, sealing and weatherproofing insulation systems
• Working from drawings, specifications and manufacturer instructions
• Measuring quantities and minimising material wastage
• Using hand tools and power tools safely
• Preparing surfaces prior to insulation installation
• Removing and replacing existing insulation where required
• Maintaining a clean and safe working area
• Working safely at height using appropriate access equipment
• Following RAMS, permits and site-specific safety procedures
• Liaising with other trades and site management to coordinate works
• Reporting any defects, issues or changes to the Site Manager / Supervisor
• Ensuring all works are completed to the required quality and specification

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONSEssential:

• Some sites will need Enhanced DBS.
• Proven experience working as a Lagger / Thermal Insulation Operative
• Strong practical experience installing insulation to pipework and/or ductwork
• Good understanding of different insulation materials and their applications
• Ability to read and work from drawings, specifications and technical information
• Competent with relevant hand tools and power tools
• Good understanding of construction-site health & safety
• Able to work independently and as part of a wider M&E team
• Reliable, punctual and professional
• Right to work in the UK

Qualifications / cards:

• CSCS card appropriate to the role
• NVQ / Level 2 qualification in Thermal Insulation / Commercial Thermal Insulation desirable
• Relevant apprenticeship or recognised thermal insulation qualification desirable
• IPAF / PASMA desirable depending on project
• Asbestos Awareness desirable, particularly for refurbishment projects
• Additional site-specific qualifications may be required depending on the projectRelevant qualifications and proven experience will be considered where candidates do not hold every listed certification.
