Bowdon Hockey Club Ladies 1st Team Assistant Coach

Bowdon Hockey Club are looking for an assistant coach for season 2025-26. The Ladies 1st Team currently play in the English Premier League and have reached the Phase 3 play-offs in the previous two seasons. This is a very exciting period across the women’s section and club overall. This is an opportunity for an experienced and ambitious coach to join this Premier League team within a successful, vibrant and social hockey club.

Responsibilities:

1. Planning, organising and running of training sessions.
2. Pre-game preparation including team talks.
3. In-match input under the direction of the Head coach.
4. Scouting and evaluation of opponents.
5. Assist in the formulation of game plans.
6. Coaching the squad in all games and practices.
7. Supporting strength and conditioning programmes.
8. Supporting the head coach in performance analysis.
9. Working to create a professional and safe culture with shared goals and standards.

Personal attributes:

1. Strong background in playing and coaching, including playing styles, game plans, player and team development.
2. Strong knowledge of hockey including the latest developments.
3. Ability to work with other coaching staff.
4. Desire to learn and progress as a coach within the performance set-up at the club.
5. High degree of personal and professional integrity.
6. Tact and diplomacy balanced with the capability to make decisions.
7. Ability to deal with sensitive matters while maintaining confidentiality and meeting strict and established protocols.
8. Engender respect from athletes, officials, club members and others involved in the sport.

Time commitment:

1. Two training sessions per week (Monday & Wednesdays) beginning in August 2025 through to April/May 2026.
2. Pre-season trips.
3. Saturday matches which include Friday night stays where required.
4. Commitment to the indoor programme (to be agreed with the Head Coach).
5. Attend team, leadership or coaching meetings as required.
