Job description

The Employee Relations Manager position requires an individual with significant employee relations experience, deep subject matter expertise, and strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. These competencies will enable the individual to work independently to manage a broad spectrum of ER issues and collaborate with employees and partners across Amazon’s wide geographic and cultural scope.

The central objectives of the Employee Relations Manager in the UK & Ireland Field Employee Relations team are:

  1. Ensure our organization’s treatment of every employee is fair, respectful, and consistent with our core values, policies, and objectives as we strive to be Earth’s Best Employer.
  2. Support proactive and reactive employee relations initiatives.
  3. Partner with senior managers and the People eXperience & Technology (PXT) teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices.
  4. Facilitate employee listening sessions, focus groups, and design and deliver training programs.
  5. Work with large datasets to identify root causes, recognize patterns, and develop innovative solutions for complex problems, including creating effective executive messaging, reports, and presentations.
  6. Proactively enhance the employee experience by addressing concerns early, de-escalating, and resolving workplace issues before they escalate.
  7. Lead project management on initiatives aimed at improving employee relations and engagement.
  8. Handle sensitive employee relations issues on a reactive basis, often within tight timeframes.
  9. Balance proactive efforts with urgent responses effectively.

This role reports to the Head of Employee Experience and Relations UK and Ireland and requires some travel, up to 30% annually, mainly within the UK and Ireland, occasionally in Europe. The base location is flexible within the UK.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct and oversee employee relations and vulnerability assessment programs.
  2. Analyze and revise people programs, policies, and practices to support positive employee relations.
  3. Develop arrangements for collective consultation and communication, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and Amazon policies.
  4. Act with urgency, a bias for action, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  5. Review employment policies for alignment with Amazon’s objectives and legal compliance.
  6. Support significant ER projects and participate in international initiatives.

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in employee relations, HR, or labor/employment law.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced or law degree a plus.
  • Strong understanding of UK employment and labor laws.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and persuasion skills for collaboration across management levels and diverse organizational cultures.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to navigate complex international organizational structures.
