Job description

Avantor is seeking a detail-oriented, science-savvy Laboratory Technician - Histopathology to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you'll be responsible for scanning historical human tissue samples, performing image quality checks, and ensuring accurate data management across digital platforms.

This 12-month temporary role is ideal for recent science graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, while contributing to a transformative initiative in digital pathology. You'll join a small team supporting the digitisation of historical tissue samples for AI model development. The team works closely with scientists to ensure high-quality imaging and accurate data flow across systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine digital pathology slide scanning, ensuring high-quality image data and accurate metadata
  • Perform quality checking of scans, ensuring accuracy
  • Support laboratory operations, including maintaining cleanliness, managing supplies, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and GLS standards
  • Contribute to a large AI-focused project, receiving training in digital pathology techniques and supporting innovative research initiatives
Requirements:
  • Degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience in a histopathology laboratory setting
  • Comfortable working with large volumes of digital images and data
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory software
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

This full-time, temporary position (12 months) is based at our brand-new facility at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge.
