Job Description:

Manpower is currently seeking 2 interim Laboratory Technicians to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. This role offers an opportunity to become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.

The position is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral. It is a full-time temporary role lasting 6 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation is competitive, between £24,700 - £27,445 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

This Laboratory Technician (Fragrance Lab Compounder) role involves working within a team across all Unilever Business Groups globally, collaborating with fragrance R&D teams. The primary responsibility is to provide technical and laboratory support to accurately formulate according to a given recipe. This is a repetitive task requiring high accuracy and attention to detail.

You will work both proactively and independently in a multi-functional, multicultural environment, following prescribed procedures and health and safety guidelines.

The main task is to formulate accurately to a specified recipe, requiring precision and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately weigh materials according to the recipe and order of addition
  • Record all laboratory work meticulously, including labeling
  • Handle and store raw materials safely
  • Coordinate with the laboratory team and raw material assistant manager regarding stock levels and requirements
  • Maintain cleanliness and calibration of equipment for accurate results
  • Follow safety and lab management procedures (Risk Assessment, Health & Safety, Laboratory Management, Standard Procedures)
  • Update project teams on challenges and timing changes
Key Skills
  • Practical laboratory experience in sample preparation preferred, with a keen eye for safety and procedure
  • Interest in fragrances; background in perfumery, chemistry, and formulation would be advantageous
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Awareness of safety protocols, including SOPs, risk assessments, and CoSHH
  • Highly motivated, numerate, detail-oriented, with an interest in products and fragrances
  • Effective communication skills, especially around deadlines and challenges
  • Digital literacy
  • Ability to remain calm under changing priorities
