6 Month rolling contract. Based at Minworth Treatment Works. Candidates must have a full UK Driving Licence. Candidates must be able to work shifts between 7am-7pm, Monday to Friday.

Waste Lab Sampling Technician

Key Accountabilities:

  • Reception of tankered trade and domestic waste loads at sewage treatment works, including conducting simple lab analysis on samples prior to acceptance.
  • Ensuring all appropriate paperwork and electronic records (including Duty of Care and transportation) are completed correctly.
  • Following procedures for acceptance or rejection of loads to protect assets and processes.
  • Operating waste discharge tanks onsite, calculating discharge rates in line with site performance.
  • Liaising daily with site operational staff.
  • Performing duties across multiple STW locations, including receiving loads, collecting samples and paperwork, and attending meetings.
  • Recording and compiling data, producing reports, and supporting SLA/KPI delivery.
  • Performing other sampling duties as required, including domestic waste.

Experience:

  • New entrant position; experience in water or waste industry is advantageous but training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is advantageous.
  • An awareness of wastewater processes is beneficial.
  • Experience with customer interaction and tanker drivers is advantageous.

Capabilities:

  • Ability to work unsupervised, manage competing requirements, and deliver high customer service levels.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to process improvement.
  • Effective communication skills with site operations and drivers.
  • Flexibility to work shifts between 7am-7pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays.
  • Ability to drive and work across sites within the Severn Trent area.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science preferred.
  • Operational experience or qualifications related to sewage treatment may be acceptable as an alternative.
  • Full valid UK Driving License.
