Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. in Ramsgate is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform and oversee chemical analysis of plating tanks and monitor bath conditions. The role supports production with technical advice on tank maintenance and ensures compliance with COSHH, REACH and site procedures.

The successful candidate will hold a chemistry-related degree and have experience in titration, gravimetric analyses, and spectrophotometry. Familiarity with AI-assisted productivity is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
• Understanding of plating chemistry: chrome, nickel, zinc, copper, and additives.
• Proficiency in titration, gravimetric analysis, spectrophotometry, and pH/conductivity measurements
• Experience analysing laboratory data and identifying process trends
• Ability to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision‑making, work quality, and to reduce costs.

Job Description:

In 2007 AEM Limited was acquired by AMETEK Inc, a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices as a unit within AMETEK MRO’s Aerospace and Defence Division, a recognized global provider of third‑party MRO services to commercial, regional, and general aviation customers as well as military, helicopter, and business jet markets.

Following an internal promotion we are now looking to fill the position ofLaboratory Technician at our Ramsgate facility.

Responsibilities:

Laboratory Analysis

• Perform and oversee chemical analysis of plating tanks (e.g., chrome, cadmium, nickel, silver, copper).
• Monitor plating bath conditions against operating specifications, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results and maintaining effective process control.
• Identify and investigate out-of-spec (OOS) results, determine when additional analysis is required and implement or recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Support production teams with technical advice on tank maintenance and performance.
• Coordinate laboratory schedules, prioritising workload and ensuring quality standards.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration records, and chemical inventory.
• Ensure compliance with COSHH, REACH, and site-specific chemical handling procedures.
• Support EHS initiatives and contribute to internal audits and inspections.
• Maintain and periodically review plating tank specifications and operating parameters, ensuring associated documentation, process controls, and labelling remain accurate, compliant, and up to date.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

• Support compliance with applicable UK environmental legislation and permit requirements.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ISO standards (e.g., ISO 14001)
• Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.

Risk Management

• Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses and COSHH assessments
• Develop and implement control measures to mitigate risks
• Lead, and or support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are taken

Policy & Procedure Development

• Assist with the development, review and maintenance of laboratory procedures and work instructions.
• Ensure policies are communicated and understood across the organization
• Integrate Environmental considerations into engineering project planning

Training & Awareness

• Deliver or coordinate training programs for staff and contractors
• Promote a safety culture through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks for plating analysis and environmental
• Ensure new employees receive EHS inductions

Environmental Management

• Support waste disposal, pollution control, and resource conservation
• Provide laboratory and technical support to environmental assessments and improvement projects
• Support with initiatives to reduce the organization’s carbon footprint

Risk Assessment for Health Hazards

• Identify and assessoccupational health risks(e.g., exposure to hazardous substances, ergonomic risks).

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC), or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental Science or a related scientific discipline.
• Understanding of plating chemistry: chrome, nickel, zinc, copper, and associated additives.
• Proficiency in titration, gravimetric analysis, spectrophotometry, and pH/conductivity measurements
• Experience analysing laboratory data and identifying process trends
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision‑making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
