Freenome Ltd is a leading immunodiagnostics developer focused on the growing field of diagnostic products to detect early stage cancer.

Our technology, EarlyCDT, can detect cancer on average four years earlier than standard diagnosis. We have a CE-IVD marked lung test that has already impacted the care of more than 200,000 patients at high risk of lung cancer or with indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPN). Our work has been featured in over 150 presentations, posters, keynotes, and peer-reviewed publications.

About this role

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician on a 15-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover) to join our Development team in Nottingham. This onsite role supports lab operations and scientific development, contributing to our mission of transforming cancer diagnostics.

You will help maintain equipment, manage stock, and assist scientists with experiments in proteomic immunoassays, while ensuring accurate record-keeping in line with ISO 13485 standards. This role reports to the Lab Operations Manager and is onsite at our Nottingham, UK, laboratories.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain, calibrate, and clean lab equipment (e.g., autoclave, pH meter, balances, plate washers)
  • Carry out routine lab maintenance: glassware washing, legionella prevention, lab coat cleaning
  • Manage waste disposal, including hazardous and product waste
  • Prepare reagents/buffers and maintain reliable batch records
  • Receive goods, manage stock, and order consumables/reagents
  • Handle and store human serum samples safely
  • Support ELISA-based assay development and molecular biology experiments (PCR, cloning, DNA/protein purification, bacterial expression)
  • Perform basic data analysis and contribute to internal presentations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or studying towards 2:1 or above) in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related field
  • Previous lab experience with safe practices, accurate record-keeping, and solution/buffer prep
  • Basic knowledge of ELISA, SDS-PAGE, recombinant protein expression, and purification techniques
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork

Desirable

  • Experience with bacterial culture, protein purification, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, and PCR
