Job summary

Eurofins Scientific in Grimsby is seeking a laboratory technician on a fixed-term contract ending 21 December 2026. You will join the food testing team, carrying out registration, processing, media preparation and tests to meet quality standards.

The role offers 37.5 hours per week on a 2 on/2 off shift pattern: 10:00–21:00 for Sat, Sun, Tue, Wed; 10:00–21:30 on Mon, Thu, Fri. Training provided and UK health and safety obligations observed.

Qualifications

• Degree in science and laboratory experience desirable but training provided.
• Good organisational and technical problem‑solving skills.
• Reliable, thorough and capable of handling pressure.

Responsibilities

• Register food samples to quality standards.
• Process food samples according to procedures.
• Prepare media and perform reading/confirmation tests.
• Conduct media QC, IQC and environmental monitoring.
• Record data, maintain documentation, and ensure safety.
• Support UKAS accreditation compliance and continuous improvement.
• Provide high level internal/external customer care.
• Adhere to company rules and perform additional tasks as needed.

Job Description

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

The purpose of this role is to complete the relevant stage of food testing to the required quality standards and internal methods/procedures. Further, assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

This is a fixed term contract ending 21/12/2026. Working 37.5 hours per week on a2 on 2 off shift pattern: 10:00 - 21:00 for Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesdays / 10:00-21:30 on Monday, Thursday and Friday's.

• To carry out registration of food samples in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out processing of food samples in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out media preparation in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out reading/confirmation tests in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• To carry out media QC, IQC, environmental monitoring in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
• Adhering to documented procedures for the relevant section of the laboratory, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.
• Responsible for ensuring that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner.
• Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual.
• To assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.
• Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
• Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company.
• Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the line manager.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in science and experience in a laboratorywould be desirable but not essential as full training is provided.
• Good organisational and technical problem-solving skills.
• Capable of working well under pressure.
• Reliable and thorough.
• Willing to take on responsibility.
