At our Winfrith nuclear licensed site, we hold the most extensive UK & overseas authorisations and safety case among UK commercial companies. Our qualified and experienced personnel provide unmatched expertise in radioactive waste treatment, including radiochemistry, treatment, encapsulation, size reduction, incineration, and disposal. This enables us to offer innovative and integrated solutions for complex waste projects.

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technical Manager to join us on site in Winfrith.

The role

The Laboratory Technical Manager will oversee compliance with ISO 17025, manage method development, machine maintenance, supplier relationships, QA/QC, lab safety, inventory, waste disposal, and serve as the Principal Radiochemist.

The candidate should perform chemical and radiochemical analyses, support laboratory operations, and assist the Commercial Team with technical queries and contract execution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Chemical and Radiochemical Analyses

  • Act as Principal Radiochemist
  • Manage sample reception, logging, and preparation
  • Conduct analyses following QA protocols
  • Calibrate instruments and verify performance
  • Interpret data and troubleshoot methods
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and develop techniques

Supporting Operations

  • Support operational activities outside the labs
  • Archive samples and QA documentation
  • Share best practices to improve lab capabilities

Management

  • Act as QA Manager for ISO 17025
  • Represent ACS externally
  • Lead technical meetings and staff reviews
  • Assist with scheduling, metrics, and financial management
  • Prepare analytical reports and QA documentation
  • Manage procurement and staff appraisals

Health and Safety

  • Ensure safety and QA compliance
  • Promote safety culture and regulatory adherence
