About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Research Scientist to join the Cell Science team and work across sections of the Cell Science Technology Platform.

You will carry out routine cell culture procedures, molecular biology tests, data analysis, and database management. You will be involved in the development and streamlining of new procedures under supervision and be encouraged to improve your professional skills.

The post holder must understand customer needs and take these into account when carrying out the job. They must be flexible, open to assimilate new techniques, able to solve simple problems in their area of expertise, and demonstrate a collegiate can-do attitude.

What you will be doing

As a Laboratory Research Scientist at the Crick, you will be responsible for:

  • The growing of small and large-scale, high-quality cell cultures. These include different types of cell lines including monolayer, suspension, and hybridoma. Cell lines originate from a range of human and non-human sources.
  • Perform specialised cell methods and learn new techniques as they are developed and introduced.
  • Daily collection and deposit of frozen vials from the Cryostore.
  • Work as part of the quality control team to ensure all the cell cultures performed at the Crick are authentic and contamination-free.
  • Adhere to proven protocols and standard procedures, ensuring they are followed meticulously.
  • Perform end-point PCR, qPCR, fragment analysis, gel electrophoresis.

About you

You will bring:

  • A BSc or MSc in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or similar, or equivalent experience in the laboratory.
  • Basic and advanced cell culture expertise and knowledge.
  • An eye for detail, and continually checking your work to ensure it is accurate.
  • Proven ability to be organized in the workplace.
  • Effective communication across the team and department.
  • Enthusiasm to learn on the job and share knowledge amongst the team.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver to deadlines.
  • Be an excellent team worker, keeping colleagues informed of essential information and problems that may arise.
