Job description

Harwin plc is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-reliability electronic components. Based in Portsmouth, our products support critical industries including aerospace, defence, medical, and telecommunications.

Were currently seeking a Plating Shop Lab Technician to join our Process Engineering team. In this hands-on role, youll be responsible for maintaining the quality and compliance of our electroplating processes through precise laboratory analysis and chemical control. Youll also oversee the operation of our effluent treatment plant to ensure environmentally safe waste management.

What Youll Do

  • Conduct chemical analysis and maintenance of electroplating solutions (e.g. nickel, tin, gold)
  • Monitor bath performance using wet chemistry and analytical techniques (titration, pH, MP-AES, HPLC)
  • Operate and maintain the effluent treatment plant, ensuring environmental compliance
  • Troubleshoot plating defects and support continuous process improvement

What Youll Need:

Essential

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Science, or Maths
  • Lab experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of plating processes and effluent handling

Desirable

  • ONC/HNC in Chemistry or Environmental Engineering
  • Experience with advanced lab instrumentation (MP-AES, HPLC)
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 standards

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong wet chemistry knowledge and problem-solving skills
  • Safety-first mindset with COSHH and environmental awareness
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, hands-on role
