About the role

We are seeking to appoint a full-time interim Laboratory Manager. The position is funded until September, with hours per week to be specified. The Laboratory Manager will play a key role in achieving the teaching and research strategy of the Institute, including facilitating academic research and innovation, achieving sustainability targets, and developing a positive technical staffing culture. Key responsibilities include overseeing technical support, facilities, health and safety, chemical stores, and equipment maintenance. The role also involves ensuring compliance with safety protocols, managing budgets, contributing to timetabling, and fostering a collaborative technical culture. The postholder will work closely with academic staff, students, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth and safe lab operations. For queries, please contact Kevin Macdonald.

About you

The successful candidate will have a degree in biological, physical, or material sciences or equivalent professional experience. The appointee will line manage a team of technicians and be responsible for the safety of staff, students, and visitors within the laboratory areas of the Institute.
