Overview

Are you ready to drive the future of pharmaceutical operations from behind the scenes? Proclinical is seeking a Laboratory Manager to direct and manage the operations of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. This role involves ensuring the labs are safe, efficient, and fully operational while contributing to the planning and development of new facilities in Central London. The position is full-time and requires on-site presence five days a week. Initially based in Stevenage, the role will transition to new headquarters in London around 2027-2028.

Responsibilities
  • Head up laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, supply coordination, and safety compliance.
  • Lead core laboratory services such as gas systems, temperature monitoring, waste disposal, and stores.
  • Plan and execute laboratory refurbishments, repairs, and layout designs for new facilities.
  • Act as the primary contact for laboratory-related issues and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.
  • Lead procurement activities, manage service contracts, and maintain inventory of lab equipment and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment service agreements and third-party vendors.
  • Onboard and train staff, visitors, and contractors on laboratory protocols and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with scientists and instrument superusers to coordinate service visits and resolve technical issues.
  • Manage laboratory workflows and systems, including equipment booking platforms.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Skills and Requirements
  • Previous working history in laboratory management within a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, safety standards, and operational procedures, including biosafety and chemical handling.
  • Proficiency in managing lab infrastructure, service contracts, and supplier relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and laboratory management systems.
  • Supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Educational background at A Level or equivalent; further qualifications in a scientific discipline are advantageous.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience with high-throughput screening, antibody discovery, or molecular biology techniques is a plus.
  • Proven ability to support lab expansions and refurbishments while minimizing disruptions.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory compliance requirements and troubleshooting complex issues.
